Six teenagers are horrified to discover that an evil force has taken control of them . . . a force that feeds on them hungrily and finds its only outlet in the blind desire to destroy. The force must be destroyed. But how? What follows is the ultimate battle for supremacy between the forced of good and evil.— “Shusterman’s unique vision, suspenseful pacing, and empathy with teen’s not-so-nice emotions will draw readers into this fabulous tale just as inexorably as its protagonists are impelled to find one another and discover the source of their malaises. A spellbinder.” — — “Shusterman combines personal quest, horror, and science fiction into an absorbing exploration of good and evil, guilt, forgiveness, and personal responsibility.” — — “Readers [will] wish for a sequel to tell more about these interesting and unusual characters.” —
This inventive fantasy from bestseller Fforde (The Eyre Affair) imagines a screwball future in which social castes and protocols are rigidly defined by acuteness of personal color perception. Centuries after the cryptically cataclysmic Something That Happened, a Colortocracy, founded on the inflexible absolutes of the chromatic scale, rules the world. Amiable Eddie Russett, a young Red, is looking forward to marrying a notch up on the palette and settling down to a complacent bourgeois life. But after meeting Jane G-23, a rebellious working-class Grey, and a discredited, invisible historian known as the Apocryphal man, Eddie finds himself questioning the hitherto sacred foundations of the status quo. En route to finding out what turned things topsy-turvy, Eddie navigates a vividly imagined landscape whose every facet is steeped in the author's remarkably detailed color scheme. Sometimes, though, it's hard to see the story for the chromotechnics.
It began innocently enough: six children conceived at exact moment that the star Mentaras-H went supernova—The Explosion transformed their souls into living star fragments. It also conferred upon each of them a unique but mysterious powera power that until they learned its secret masqueraded as a warping disfigurement. For some, it was physical. For others, it was emotional. But for all six, it meant one thing: their lives would never be the same.In time they unlocked the secret of their power. Their gifts brought them incredible riches and attention. Once despised for their deformities, they ...

Reality is illusory and magical in the stunning new literary SF novel from the multiple award-winning author of — for fans of Haruki Murakami and David Mitchell.A tale of murder, artistic rivalry, and literary trickery; a Chinese puzzle of a novel where nothing is quite what it seems; a narrator whose agenda is artful and subtle; a narrative that pulls you in and plays an elegant game with you. The Dream Archipelago is a vast network of islands. The names of the islands are different depending on who you talk to, their very locations seem to twist and ...
